Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta Announces Retirement

Gary Barta, the Henry B. and Patricia B. Tippie Director of Athletics Chair at the University of Iowa, has announced his retirement effective August 1, 2023, after 17 years as athletics director. During his tenure, Barta oversaw numerous on-the-field successes, academic achievements, facility upgrades, and fundraising efforts. He also served on numerous NCAA committees and was named the 2015-16 National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics/Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year. An interim athletics director will be announced next week.
