CA Sec. of State bars McCarthy's chosen successor from running for Congress
Republican Assemblyman Vince Fong of Bakersfield has been ruled ineligible to run for the 20th congressional district seat in California, which was left vacant by former Congressman Kevin McCarthy. Fong had initially decided not to run but changed his mind after another candidate dropped out. However, the California Secretary of State's Office stated that Fong cannot appear in more than one race or withdraw as a candidate, as he had already filed for reelection for his state assembly seat. Fong plans to challenge the decision in court, while other candidates in the race express their support for the ruling.
