Mexico's Coast Reveals Second Largest Blue Hole in the World

Scientists have discovered the world's second-largest blue hole, Taam Ja', in Chetumal Bay off the coast of Mexico, measuring 900.2 feet (274.4 metres) deep. Blue holes are massive underwater sinkholes that are considered ecological hotspots with an abundance of plant and animal life. Taam Ja' is close to the coasts of Mexico and Belize, and its discovery could lead to an increase in local and foreign visitors. The world's deepest blue hole, Longdong, is located in the South China Sea and is 987 feet (300.89 metres) deep.
