Terry Gou, iPhone Maker, Makes Presidential Bid for Taiwan

Terry Gou, the billionaire founder of Foxconn and major Apple supplier, has announced his bid to become Taiwan's next president. Gou, who blames the ruling Democratic Progressive Party's hostility towards Beijing for rising tensions with China, aims to unite the fractured opposition and "take down the DPP." Despite previous failed attempts to secure the Kuomintang (KMT) ticket, Gou's direct language and business acumen have drawn crowds in pseudo-campaign events across Taiwan. Having built Foxconn into one of the world's largest private-sector employers, Gou's connections include Chinese President Xi Jinping. He vows to start negotiations with China if elected, based on the idea that both sides belong to one China but can interpret it differently.
