Nigeria's opposition leaders, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, have filed petitions to cancel the results of last month's presidential election, citing irregularities and accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of breaching the law. They have asked for a fresh vote to be conducted. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party's candidate, Bola Tinubu, won the election, which has been defended as credible by Tinubu. The APC and People's Democratic Party (PDP) have governed Nigeria since the end of military rule in 1999. The Appeals Court has 180 days to hear and make a ruling on Obi's challenge.
