'Hotel Rwanda' hero Paul Rusesabagina reunites with family in US after release

Paul Rusesabagina, the man who inspired the film "Hotel Rwanda," has left Qatar for Houston to reunite with his family in the United States after being released from prison in Rwanda last week. Rusesabagina, a US permanent resident, was sentenced to 25 years in prison in September 2021 over his ties to a group opposed to Rwandan President Paul Kagame. His release followed months of negotiations between Washington and Kigali. Rusesabagina denies responsibility for attacks carried out in Rwanda by the group's armed wing and says he was lured to Rwanda in 2019.
