Crackdown on Dissent: Russian Opposition Leaders and Activists Jailed and Arrested.

Russian opposition leader, Vladimir Kara-Murza, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for denouncing Putin's war in Ukraine. He was convicted of treason, one of the harshest sentences for a political dissident since Putin came to power. Kara-Murza was a key figure in the adoption of the Global Magnitsky Act, which targets human rights abusers in Russia and around the world. He survived two assassination attempts before his arrest. The judge who sentenced him was under Magnitsky sanctions for human rights violations. Kara-Murza is very ill and requires medical care, which he is not receiving. His sentencing is an example of the Russian government's repression of political dissidents and human rights activists.
