Eight Days In: US-Israel War Expands Across the Middle East

A week into the US-Israel war with Iran, fighting has broadened across the region: Israel has carried out a wide campaign against Tehran (including blasts at Mehrabad airport) while the US says it has struck over 3,000 Iranian targets in the past week. Iran reports more than 1,230 dead, including children, and Lebanon has seen extensive strikes with hundreds dead or wounded and the Norwegian Refugee Council estimating nearly half a million displaced there. Two Ghanaian UN peacekeepers were critically injured in Lebanon as Iran and Hezbollah fire back and Gulf states report drone and missile activity. The UN warns the conflict could spiral out of control, diplomatic efforts are urged, and President Trump says there will be no deal with Iran except an unconditional surrender, with no clear end timeline in sight.
