BBC Chairman Richard Sharp Resigns Amid Turmoil and Controversy

Richard Sharp resigned as BBC chairman after deciding he wasn't prepared to put the BBC or himself through any further turmoil and noise. He had conversations with many people inside and outside the BBC over the past few days and simply read the room. The Heppinstall report found that Mr Sharp broke the rules governing public appointments. His departure felt inevitable, particularly as it became clear that Simon Case, the Cabinet secretary, was not going to back him in the way Mr Sharp had hoped.
