U.S. Treasury Targets Iran-Aligned Militias in Iraq with Sanctions

The U.S. Treasury has imposed sanctions on six individuals affiliated with the Iran-aligned militia group Kata'ib Hizballah (KH) in Iraq, as well as on Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS) and its leader Hashim Finyan Rahim al-Saraji. The designated individuals are accused of being involved in attacks against the United States and its partners in Iraq and Syria. The U.S. Department of State has previously designated KH as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. The sanctions aim to hold accountable opportunistic actors exploiting the situation in Gaza for their own ends and disrupt destabilizing activities in the Middle East.
