South Africa Clears Allegations of Arms Shipment to Russia

An independent inquiry in South Africa has found "no evidence" to support claims that the country supplied weapons to Russia. The inquiry was launched after the US ambassador to South Africa, Reuben Brigety, alleged that a Russian ship had been loaded with arms and ammunition at a naval base near Cape Town. The inquiry instead found that the ship had delivered armaments ordered by the South African National Defence Force. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa stated that the allegations had a damaging effect on the country's image and economy.
