"Museveni Criticizes the West and Assumes Leadership of NAM"

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni criticized the West for imposing ideologies and oppression on the third world while addressing the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Kampala after taking over the chairmanship of the 120-country grouping. He emphasized the need for unity, solidarity, and collective coordination among member states to exercise considerable influence, particularly at the UN, and called for respect for the freedom of others. Museveni's remarks come amid criticism from Western powers for assenting to a homosexuality law and ahead of the United Nations Summit of the Future in September 2024.
