Kenyan and Haitian Officials Collaborate to Combat Gang Violence

A Kenyan delegation has met with leaders of Haiti's national police to assess the possibility of leading a United Nations-backed multinational security force to combat escalating gang warfare in the country. The delegation, which arrived in Haiti on Sunday, will hold meetings with senior police staff and Haiti's Prime Minister during their visit. Haiti's government had previously requested international security assistance, and Kenya's offer to lead such a force last month has garnered support from the United States. The plan to send a security force to Haiti will be voted on by the U.N. Security Council after the Kenyan assessment. The force is expected to focus on restoring order, disarming gangs, and re-establishing access routes for basic services.
