Inside North Korean Jails: Torture, Forced Abortions, and Insects for Food, Reveals NGO

A new report by human rights watchdog Korea Future, based on interviews with hundreds of survivors, witnesses, and perpetrators of abuse who have fled North Korea, reveals widespread human rights violations in the country's penal system. The report documents instances of torture, rape, forced abortions, starvation rations, and denial of the right to life. The report alleges that abuses are personally carried out by officials as high-ranking as major generals. The report calls for investigations and prosecutions for the abuses and hopes other countries will consider pursuing domestic court cases against North Korean agents.
