German Woman Fears Execution of Father by Iran

Gazelle Sharmahd, the daughter of Jamshid Sharmahd, an Iranian-German businessman sentenced to death in Iran, fears that her father could be executed at any moment. Jamshid Sharmahd has been in solitary confinement for almost three years, suffering from malnutrition, violence, and lack of proper medication for his Parkinson's disease. Gazelle Sharmahd launched a criminal complaint in Germany, calling for an investigation into high-ranking members of the Iranian judiciary and intelligence service for crimes against humanity. The principle of universal jurisdiction allows for the prosecution of such crimes anywhere in the world. Iranian-Germans feel ignored by the German government and fear for their own safety, suspecting racism and prioritization of trade over human rights.
