Spain Deploys Research Vessel Amid Devastating Flash Floods

A Spanish research vessel, the Ramón Margalef, has been redirected to assist in locating vehicles swept into the Mediterranean Sea by recent catastrophic floods in Spain, which have left nearly 100 people missing and over 200 dead. The vessel will map a 36-square-kilometer area to aid recovery efforts, using sensors and a submersible robot. The floods, exacerbated by drought and record temperatures, have prompted a broader search by police and soldiers, as well as studies on the environmental impact of the flood runoff.
