Paris Votes to Triple Parking Fees for SUVs in Green Initiative Ahead of Olympics

Parisians voted to triple parking fees for out-of-town SUVs, making it 18 euros per hour in the city center, as part of Mayor Anne Hidalgo's efforts to reduce pollution and make the city greener ahead of the Olympics. The measure aims to discourage the use of large, polluting vehicles and prioritize pedestrians and cyclists. The low-turnout election saw 54% support for the measure, with concerns about SUVs taking up too much space, polluting the environment, and causing more traffic accidents. The increased fees would apply to SUVs weighing 1.6 tons or more and 2 tons or more if fully electric, with the highest cost reaching 225 euros for a six-hour stay.
