The Iberian lynx, once on the brink of extinction, has been downgraded from endangered to vulnerable thanks to successful conservation efforts in Spain and Portugal. The population has grown from 62 mature individuals in 2001 to over 2,000 adults and juveniles today, due to habitat restoration, breeding programs, and the recovery of their main prey, the European rabbit.
