Tragic Death: Hiker Succumbs to Extreme Heat in Grand Canyon

A 57-year-old woman died while hiking in extreme heat at the Grand Canyon on Sunday. The park was under an extreme heat warning, with temperatures well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The woman was attempting an eight-mile hike in a remote and rigorous area of the park when she became unconscious. A park ranger arrived at the scene but was unable to save her. This is the seventh death in the park this year, and both the National Park Service and the Mohave County Medical Examiner are investigating the incident. The City of Phoenix has provided safety tips for hikers, including watching the weather, dressing appropriately, bringing plenty of water, hiking with others, and staying on designated trails.
