ADHD Linked to Increased Violence and Dementia Risk

Individuals with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have a significantly higher risk of being involved in violent incidents, both as victims and perpetrators, according to a meta-analysis of 14 studies. The research found that individuals with ADHD had 2.5 times higher odds of perpetrating intimate partner violence and 80% higher odds of being victims of sexual or intimate partner violence compared to those without ADHD. However, it should be noted that most cases of violence do not involve individuals with ADHD, and the majority of individuals diagnosed with ADHD will not be involved in violence. The study highlights the importance of understanding the specificities of individuals with ADHD and the potential consequences of violence for those affected.
