Beware of Dangerous Emails: Gmail and Outlook Users Warned

Security experts warn that cyber attacks are on the rise, with most targeting victims via their email accounts. A new messaging scam involves messages that claim to be from trusted firms such as Microsoft or Adobe, but contain malware that is downloaded onto a device as soon as the attachment is opened. Along with dangerous attachments, there has been a 40% rise in phishing and smishing attacks over the previous year. Refund and invoice scams have also had a sharp uptick in Q1 2023, rising 26% in the UK compared to Q4 2022. Users are advised to take extra caution with any email asking to download files or click on a link, even those that appear to be from reputable brands.
