At least 57 participants in the UK leg of the World Triathlon Championship Series fell ill with symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting after swimming in the sea off Roker beach in Sunderland. Routine tests conducted prior to the event revealed high levels of E coli in the water, prompting an investigation by the UK Health Security Agency.
