Rare Encounter: Swimmer Captures Epic Battle Between Sea Lion and Octopus

A woman swimming off the coast of Nanaimo, Canada, captured a "once in a lifetime" sight of a sea lion battling an octopus. Lindsay Bryant initially thought the sea lion was tangled in something, but upon closer inspection, she realized it was engaged in a fierce struggle with the octopus. The video shows the sea lion flinging the octopus away and diving underwater repeatedly. Marine mammal researcher Andrew Trites explained that sea lions have to rip off the octopus' arms one by one to avoid suffocation. Bryant described the encounter as an "interesting swim" and believes it will be a once in a lifetime sighting.
