Astrophotographers' Top Gear Revealed

Skies and Scopes' annual gear analysis of shortlisted images from the Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition reveals that astrophotographers are increasingly switching from DSLR to mirrorless cameras, with 58% using mirrorless in 2023. Canon remains the most popular brand among astrophotographers, followed by Nikon and Sony. The Canon EOS 6D is the top camera model, while third-party lenses from Sigma, Tamron, and Rokinon are preferred. The survey also highlights the popularity of full-frame image sensors and the preference for fast apertures in astrophotography.
