NASA Retrieves Apollo Artifacts from Alabama Rest Stop Rocket

NASA salvaged parts from the corroded Saturn IB rocket that fell during its removal from the Ardmore Welcome Center in Alabama. The rocket's structural integrity had deteriorated over 44 years, leading to its collapse. While some components were beyond saving, significant artifacts such as engines, avionics boxes, launch escape tower, and fins were salvaged and will be evaluated for display in museums. The state of Alabama is now responsible for deciding and funding the replacement of the rocket, with NASA offering consultation.
