Global Efforts to Tackle the Space Junk Crisis

The U.S. Space Command has proposed a five-point list of "best practices" aimed at reducing space junk orbiting the Earth. The proposal, known as "Tenets of Responsible Behavior in Space," is not a legal document but could make outer space safer and cleaner if other countries and businesses agree to follow it. Private companies are also working on debris-removal devices and ways to capture and refuel old satellites to make them useful for a longer period. The main concern is that there are too many old objects in space that are no longer used and may get in the way of useful objects.
