"NASA's Sounding Rockets to Study Eclipse Phenomena"

NASA plans to launch sounding rockets from the Wallops Flight Facility before, during, and after the partial eclipse to study the effects of sunlight dimming on Earth's upper atmosphere. The launches are scheduled for 2:40 p.m., 3:20 p.m., and 4:05 p.m. and will be livestreamed on Wallops' YouTube channel. Weather permitting, the launches may be visible in the mid-Atlantic region, including the D.C. area. Spectators are advised to wear solar safety glasses and can visit the Wallops visitor center, with gates opening from 1-5 p.m.
