Mysterious Boom and Fireball Illuminate Monroe County's Night Sky

Residents in and around Bloomington, Indiana, witnessed a fireball streaking across the sky and heard a loud boom on Thursday night. Videos captured by home security cameras showed the celestial event, likely a meteor, which burned up in the Earth's atmosphere. The boom suggests that the object was traveling faster than the speed of sound, creating a sonic boom. The American Meteor Society received numerous reports of fireball sightings in the area.
