Safe Haven Baby Box: First Surrendered Baby in Knoxville Sparks Support for Safer Alternatives in Tennessee

Tennessee's first Safe Haven Baby Box, located at Knoxville Fire Department Station 17, was used for the first time when a healthy baby boy was surrendered anonymously. The resource is available 24/7 and allows parents to surrender unharmed babies anonymously within two weeks of their birth. The Baby Box gives parents the option to surrender their baby anonymously, and firefighters at the station are alerted and respond within minutes to care for the baby until the Department of Child Services arrives.
