Texans Cross State Lines for Abortions in New Mexico

Since the implementation of the Texas fetal heartbeat law, many pregnant women in Texas have been traveling to New Mexico, where abortion remains legal. Some can afford flights, while others rely on driving or taking the bus. However, many are opting for the cheaper and more comfortable option of taking the Amtrak train from San Antonio to El Paso, followed by a short rideshare trip to the nearest abortion clinic in New Mexico. The financial and logistical costs of traveling to another state for abortion care can be challenging for many, but the data shows that the number of Texans having abortions has not fallen since the end of Roe v. Wade.
