Lawyers for former President Donald J. Trump have requested a pause in the civil lawsuits seeking to hold him accountable for the Capitol violence on Jan. 6, 2021, until after his federal criminal trial connected to the same events is over. They argue that proceeding with the civil cases now would prejudice Trump's ability to effectively defend himself in both the civil cases and the special counsel criminal matter, as it might reveal his defense strategy for the criminal charges.
