"North Carolina Governor Rejects Election Overhaul Bill"

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, a Democrat, has vetoed an election overhaul bill passed by the Republican-controlled legislature, calling it a dangerous assault on the right to vote. The bill, Senate Bill 747, would add new restrictions and deadlines, empower partisan poll watchers, and change same-day registration rules. Cooper also pledged to veto another election-related bill if it reaches his desk. Republicans, who hold a supermajority in the state House and Senate, have successfully overridden many of Cooper's vetoes this session and now also have a majority on the North Carolina Supreme Court.
