Legislators Propose Bill to Halt Government Shutdowns and Protect Military Pay

Democratic Representative Angie Craig has introduced a bill called the "MCCARTHY Shutdown Act" that aims to withhold the pay of members of Congress during a government shutdown. The bill proposes deducting one day's worth of pay for each day the government is shut down, with the deducted amount returned at the end of the congressional session. Craig argues that it is unfair for legislators to continue receiving pay while other federal workers, such as TSA employees, are asked to work without pay. The bill comes as Congress has just over a week to reach an agreement to fund the government and avoid a shutdown.
