General Promoted After Senate Lifts Hold on Afghanistan Withdrawal Leader

Lt. Gen. Chris Donahue, who oversaw the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, has been promoted to a four-star officer after Sen. Markwayne Mullin dropped his hold on the nomination. Donahue, currently the commander of the 18th Airborne Corps, was the last US soldier to leave Kabul and has been involved in supporting Ukraine. Mullin had previously blocked the promotion, citing a lack of accountability for the chaotic withdrawal, but the hold was lifted following support from former Defense officials.
