Calhoun County Sheriff Resigns Amid Controversy

Calhoun County Sheriff J. Warren Basnett has resigned from his position after facing criticism from fellow county officials over alleged improprieties in office, including bringing guns to a career day event at a school and promoting a deputy to corporal without following the required processes. The resignation will take effect on April 30th, and the Calhoun County Commission will have 30 days to name Basnett’s replacement.
