Yantic River Dam Break Prompts Evacuations in Norwich

A partial dam break on the Yantic River in Norwich, Connecticut has prompted mandatory evacuations for homes and businesses along the river, with an emergency shelter set up at Kelly Middle School. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning due to the imminent failure of the Fitchville Pond dam in Bozrah, and Norwich Public Utilities took the Bean Hill Substation offline, resulting in around 5,000 customers losing power. Several roads have been closed or have hazardous conditions, and Norwich Public Schools were closed due to power outages and flooding.
