The two eastbound towers of the old I-74 bridge over the Mississippi River were demolished on Sunday morning, attracting hundreds of spectators who gathered along the Iowa shoreline to witness the event. The crash of the towers and suspension cables created a huge splash, sending water a few feet into the air. The demolition company will remove more of the decking and steel before loading explosives onto the Iowa-bound span, which is expected to be blown up in several weeks.
