China's Zero-Covid Policies Resulted in Nearly 2 Million Excess Deaths, Study Reveals

A study conducted by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle suggests that China's decision to abruptly end its strict COVID-19 measures in December 2022 may have resulted in nearly 2 million excess deaths in the following two months. The study, based on mortality data and internet searches, found an estimated 1.87 million excess deaths among people over 30 years old in mainland China, excluding Tibet. These deaths far exceeded the Chinese government's official estimate of 60,000 COVID-19 deaths during the same period. China's National Health Commission has not yet commented on the report.
