Wildfire Smoke from Canada Impacts Tri-State and Midwest Air Quality

The Tri-State area, including New York City, will experience negative impacts on air quality due to smoke from wildfires in Canada. Governor Kathy Hochul has issued an air quality health advisory for several regions in New York. The smoke is expected to circulate around the northeast of the U.S., with New York City being in a "donut hole" of mostly clear air. However, the air quality may degrade in western New York on Thursday. Mount Sinai pulmonologist Dr. Barbara Hamm advises staying home if the air quality index exceeds 150 and recommends wearing masks in the subway. The governor is urging summer camps to limit outdoor activities and employers to provide masks and limit outdoor work time.
