The Tulare Lake Basin in Kings County, California is experiencing floodwater covering a large area of agricultural land due to increased flow in all waterways leading to the basin, causing Tulare Lake to reemerge for the first time since 1982-83. The lake was known in the late 1800s as the largest freshwater lake in the western United States. The re-emergence is expected to last through the summer, and there is no natural outflow for the water, so it will be eliminated through evaporation or irrigation. The Kings County Sheriff is reminding everyone that the Tulare Lake Basin is private farmland, and trespassing will be enforced.
