NTSB to Hold Public Meeting Ahead of East Palestine Train Derailment Hearing

Four months after a Norfolk Southern train carrying hazardous materials derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, a two-day field hearing is being held to investigate the causes and outcomes of the disaster. Community members will have a chance to voice their concerns about water quality, dead fish, declining home values, and health issues. Norfolk Southern has provided $17 million in assistance to nearly 10,000 families to date, but some residents feel the federal response was "lackluster" and that promises to "make it right" have been haphazardly honored. The hearing will focus on the decision to vent and burn toxic chemicals, and railroad safety legislation could come to the Senate floor next month.
