Early Life Factors Linked to Sex Work in Adulthood: ADHD and Sexual Abuse as Predictors

Childhood sexual abuse between ages 9 to 15 and having a childhood diagnosis of ADHD-C (combined presentation of ADHD) may be linked to later engagement in sex work, according to preliminary research. The study suggests that targeted interventions addressing these risk factors, promoting education, and providing access to medication may help support young women at risk of engaging in sex work. However, the study has limitations due to a small sample size, and further research is needed to confirm the findings and explore specific mechanisms.
