Investigation underway for Meningitis case in Norfolk

The Norfolk Department of Public Health is investigating a case of bacterial meningitis, following the recent death of a student from meningitis at Francis Asbury Elementary School in Hampton. The disease spreads through respiratory and throat secretions, and symptoms include fever, headache, stiff neck, altered mental status, and light sensitivity. Prevention is possible through vaccination, and the health department is identifying close contacts of the infected person to provide necessary treatment and vaccination.
