"HPAI Outbreak: Dairy Herds in Multiple States Infected with Bird Flu"

Highly pathogenic avian influenza virus has been detected in three Michigan dairy herds in Ionia, Isabella, and Ottawa counties, with a total of four impacted herds including a commercial poultry facility in Ionia County. The virus, first detected in 2022, is highly contagious in birds and poultry and can spread to wild birds and other animals. However, the commercial milk supply remains safe due to pasteurization and federal animal health regulations, and dairies are urged to limit visitors, practice biosecurity, and work closely with veterinarians for the recovery of affected dairy cows.
