Colorado declares Weld County avian flu disaster to speed response

Colorado Lt. Gov. Dianne Primavera verbally declared Weld County a disaster over a highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak, enabling state agencies to coordinate mitigation, response and recovery efforts; avian flu is severe with high mortality and can affect people, per the USDA, and Primavera is acting governor while Gov. Polis is in Washington, D.C.
