Archaeologists in Pompeii have uncovered a "spectacular" large banqueting room with elegant black walls adorned with mythological characters, including Helen of Troy, and a mosaic floor made up of over a million individual white tiles. The room is inspired by the Trojan war and was likely used for dining after sunset, with the black walls designed to prevent the smoke from oil lamps from being seen. This discovery comes during the largest excavation of the lost city in a generation, with at least one-third of the city still needing to be cleared of volcanic debris.
