Apple's PC shipments plummet 40% in a year.
Global shipments of personal computers declined by nearly one-third compared to a year ago with Apple’s products experiencing the largest year-over-year drop, according to a new report by the International Data Corporation (IDC). Apple shipments fell by 40.5% from 6.9 million in the first quarter of 2022 to 4.1 million in the last three months, cutting Apple’s market share in the personal computer space to 7.2% from 8.6% a year ago. IDC attributed the decline in shipments to weak demand, excess inventory, and a worsening macroeconomic environment. The report also noted that PC shipments will likely suffer in the near term with a return to growth towards the end of the year with an expected improvement in the global economy.
