Salmonella Outbreak from Cantaloupes Sickens Dozens in Multiple States

Dozens of people across 15 states in the US have fallen ill with salmonella after consuming cantaloupes that have been included in a recent recall. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that at least 43 people have been infected, with 17 of them requiring hospitalization. Various brands of whole and pre-cut cantaloupes have been recalled due to potential contamination. Consumers are advised to discard the recalled fruits, and investigations are ongoing to identify any additional contaminated products. Canadian officials are also investigating an outbreak involving the same strain of salmonella found in the recalled cantaloupes. Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, and it can cause severe infections in vulnerable individuals.
