"Deadly Salmonella Outbreak Spreads: Cantaloupe Linked to More Illnesses"

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a warning regarding precut cantaloupes, including those in fruit cups, due to a severe salmonella outbreak. Over 100 cases have been reported across 34 U.S. states, with two deaths and 61 hospitalizations. The outbreak has also affected Canada, with 63 illnesses and one death reported. The recall initially included Malichita and Rudy brand whole cantaloupes, but has since expanded to include precut cantaloupe products from various retailers. The CDC advises individuals to check for the brands, wash and sanitize surfaces that may have come into contact with cantaloupes, and discard any products if unsure. Symptoms of salmonella include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
