ERCOT Urges Texans to Conserve Energy Amid High Demand and Unexpected Generation Loss

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has issued a voluntary conservation notice due to extreme heat and unexpected loss of thermal generation. Texans are urged to reduce electricity use between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. CT. While ERCOT is not under emergency conditions, voluntary conservation is being encouraged to lower demand during this specific period. Simple power conservation steps include raising the thermostat, avoiding the use of large appliances, turning off non-essential lights and appliances, and adjusting pool pump schedules. ERCOT has experienced multiple peak demand records this summer.
